EY FSO Tax Leaders visit SGV

APAC Financial Services (FS) Tax Leader Ian McNeill and ASEAN FS Tax Leader Amy Ang visited SGV last September 2016. During their two-day visit, Ian and Amy led a C-Suite session for selected banking and insurance companies as well as the FSO Tax Town Hall.

C-Suite Session, 5 September 2016

In a C-Suite briefing session held at the SGV Executive Lounge, FSO Tax Partner Jay Ballesteros first presented the recent issuances of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) as well as updates on the new administration’s proposed tax reforms. Thereafter, Ian and Amy presented the group with the key themes in financial services in the APAC region. Some of the topics presented were upcoming trends in taxation such as the Common Reporting Standards; Base Erosion Profit Shifting updates, specifically Action 13 on Transfer Pricing; Indirect Taxes; and other tax innovations.

It was an informative discussion as our FSO Tax Leaders conveyed the plans, various tax issuances and tax laws (e.g., tax amnesty) from the authorities in various ASEAN countries, and how these may impact the decisions of the BIR and Philippine lawmakers.

The event was also an opportunity for the C-Suites of various FS institutions to meet the EY Tax Leaders and Partners, as well as their industry peers.

Also in attendance was SGV Head of Tax Willie Villanueva.

FSO Tax Town Hall, 6 September 2016

The FSO Tax Town Hall was held at the SGV Museum. Ian and Amy presented the APAC FSO market financial results for FY 2016, the highlights of the Tax Summit in Hong Kong, FSO tax events and campaigns, and the 2016 Global People Survey results.

In attendance were Country Managing Partner-Designate Itos Cruz, Market Group 5 Head Vicky Lee-Salas, FSO Tax Partners Allan Exclamador (AVE) and Jay Ballesteros (JAB), and the SGV FSO Tax teams.

Both events coincided with the EY Asia Pacific Tax Innovation Week, and were in line with SGV FSO’s aim to promote knowledge sharing with clients and demonstrate thought leadership in ongoing developments of relevant tax legislation.

The events were organized by a core team comprising FSO Tax Partners AVE and JAB, Associate Managers Rena David and Isabel Castillo, and Senior Associate Janelle Laydia.
