WPT presents at Korea-PH Business Forum

SGV Chairman and CMP Wilson P. Tan (WPT) was one of the speakers at the Korea-Philippines Business Forum hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines, the Philippine-Korea Society and the Korean Chamber of Commerce Philippines (KCCP). Held last 19 November, the forum discussed the challenges businesses face and the opportunities they can leverage on during the COVID-19 pandemic. Speakers included Korean Ambassador to the Philippines H.E. Han Dong-man, Philippine Economic Zone Authority Director General Hon. Charito Plaza, Yonsei University Professor Hyung Jong Kim, University of the Philippines Professor Dr. Erik Capistrano, and Seoul National University Professor Hak Kil Pyo.

WPT led a session on the investment environment in the Philippines where he presented the Philippine economic outlook, emphasizing the impact of the pandemic, the government’s investment priorities, and private sector investment opportunities. He then discussed foreign ownership restrictions and foreign investment incentives, including existing tax incentives and proposed tax reforms. He also provided an overview of SGV’s services and solutions, introducing the Firm’s Doing Business in the Philippines publication that features relevant information on setting up a business in the country. The publication is translated into seven different languages, including Korean.

The forum concluded with a Q&A portion where speakers addressed participants’ questions. Participants included members of the KCCP and the Philippine-Korea Society and representatives from Korean companies. SGV Vice Chair and Deputy Managing Partner Vivian Ruiz, General Counsel and Market Group 4 Leader Carolina Racelis, Senior Assurance Partner and former SGV CMP Itos Cruz, Assurance Partners Leovina Mae Villa-Chu and Philippine-Korea Society Officer and Head of SGV’s Korean Business Network Alvin Pinpin, and Tax Partners Reynante Marcelo and Cheryl Ong also attended the forum.
