SGV Partners join ranks of alumni

Journeys ultimately have endings but they usually allow for new beginnings. For some of our partners, it is time to start a fresh chapter in their lives and welcome new opportunities. We would like to take this moment to recognize and thank them for their innumerable contributions to SGV. Their hard work, commitment and stewardship to help build a better working world have contributed to our leadership position as the top professional services firm in the country. We have always said that excellence and integrity are our core values, and these outstanding individuals have epitomized these values in their many years of serving as stewards and mentors.

eca-news-thumb Emmanuel C. Alcantara (ECA) Mannie Alcantara joined SGV in 1981. He moved up the ranks of the Tax Group, from senior staff assistant to partner in 1990, Tax Services head, Market Circle leader, and eventually appointed as the Firm’s General Counsel. Under his leadership, our tax practice continued to be Number One among professional services firms, winning accolades for SGV. In recent years, SGV has been named Transfer Pricing Firm of the Year by the International Tax Review and Philippine Tax Firm of the Year by Acquisition International Magazine. Mannie himself has been recognized as one of the leading tax advisors and lawyers in Asia-Pacific and in the world. The 2012 edition of Asia Law & Practice: Asialaw Leading Lawyers named him as one of Asia-Pacific’s leading lawyers under the category of taxation.

His career truly embodies our values of meritocracy, excellence and integrity. Our clients and our people have been recipients of his pragmatism, wisdom and experience.

gbs-news-thumb Gerard B. Sanvictores (GBS) Gerry joined SGV & Co as audit staff in 1978 and was admitted to the partnership in 1990. He belonged to all the service lines at certain points in his career. After audit he joined Corporate Finance and then Tax Compliance. He later became People leader before being appointed Head of Administration and Core Business Services. As CBS head, he concurrently assumed engagements as an assurance partner for the Firm.

Gerry is very active in professional associations as Board Director of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) and the Association of CPAs in Commerce and Industry (ACPACI). PICPA awarded him as Outstanding PICPA Member in 2007 and as Honorary Life Member in 2009. He is the secretary-general of the Philippines-Japan Economic Cooperation Committee, vice president of the Philippine-Japan Society, Inc., and director of the Philippines-Japan Friendship Foundation. He was also the EY ASEAN sub-area people leader and the EY FEA leader for people infrastructure and shared services.

We wish Gerry all the best as he assumes his appointment as a member of the Board of Accountancy.

vav-news-thumb Ma. Victoria A. Villaluz (VAV) Vicky joined SGV & Co in 1980 and was admitted to the partnership in 1993. She was an integral part of SGV’s thought leadership programs, handling various tax seminars. Her expertise has also been significant to other various professional organizations as she the former president and also Board Director of the Tax Management Association of the Philippines (TMAP), where she promoted projects following the theme “Crusaders for Change”, which advocated the inclusion of taxation in the school curriculum, continue tax awareness campaigns for the general public, and maintained a critical eye on tax legislation and regulations. She is a member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines and the UP Women Lawyer’s Circle.

Vicky is known for her dedication, integrity and wit as well as being a family person. She is very passionate when it comes to things she cares about. Just as her advocacy for change when she was in TMAP, she has made a big impact here in SGV.

rgs-news-thumb Rebecca G. Sarmenta (RGS) Becca joined SGV in 1975 in the management services division. She was admitted to the partnership in 2005. She is recognized as the Firm expert in internal audit services, business process reviews and operational performance reviews.

She is also active in other professional groups with in her work as Director and Vice President for External Affairs of Internal Auditors Philippines, and as member of the PICPA and the Association of Certified Public Accountants in Public Practice (ACPPAP). She was also former chairperson of the Institute of Internal Auditors Philippine (IIA-P)’s Advocacy Committee, and former Director of the IIA-P Annual Convention.
