SGV partners assist EY Guam accreditation

Accounting Standards Group Head Wilson Tan and Assurance partners Yen Abarca, Edith Estacio, Janet Paraiso, Cyril Valencia and John Villa shared their expertise on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) with the EY Guam practice to assist in its fast-track IFRS accreditation process.

About 20 EY Guam and Saipan partners and managers, including EY Guam Country Managing Partner Elvin Chiang, Assurance Head John Onedera and Professional Practice Director James Whitt, completed web-based learning modules and classroom training on IFRS following the Philippines’ accreditation process. Compared to the usual three years, Guam’s accreditation process was completed in one and a half weeks. Wilson, Cyril and Janet conducted the intermediate classroom training from October 18 to 19, 2010. Edith and John handled the first two days of the advanced classroom training from November 16 to 17, 2010, while Wilson and Yen facilitated the second half of the advanced classroom training from November 17 to 18, 2010 and the mandatory IFRS executive update on November 19, 2010.

Coinciding with his Guam visit, Wilson was also the resource speaker for EY Guam’s first ever IFRS public seminar on November 17, 2010. About 45 clients and top-level managers attended the briefing at the Hyatt Regency Guam. In response to the positive feedback from the attendees, EY Guam is already planning another briefing after the 2011 busy season.
