SGV hosts successful Davao Business Forum

The Davao Business Forum spotlighted talks by two of the country’s most respected business minds: Ateneo de Manila professor and former National Economic and Development Authority Secretary, Dr. Cielito Habito, and President and CEO of the Development Bank of the Philippines, Mr. Rey David.

Dr. Habito, whose economic expertise is highly valued in both the academe and in corporate boardrooms, presented highlights of the Philippine Economic Outlook for 2010 and the Emerging Mindanao agenda. He emphasized that Mindanao’s economy delivered the country’s highest growth rate for 2009, and suggested focusing on key growth sectors, such as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), agriculture, tourism, and the development of halal businesses.

Mr. David, who brings decades of local and global experience from both private and public sectors, expounded on the DBP’s commitment to the development of SMEs, infrastructure and logistics in the region through supportive lending and financing policies, particularly for the agricultural sector. He also announced the DBP’s forays into Islamic banking through the acquisition of the Amanah Islamic Bank.

The Davao Business Forum is part of SGV’s Thought Leadership Program, which aims to promote open information exchange, dialogue and innovative thinking among the country’s top business leaders.
