SGV Cebu conducts public tax seminar on VAT and taxation developments


SGV Cebu recently conducted a tax seminar titled A Comprehensive Seminar and Workshop on Value-Added Tax (VAT) and Recent Developments in Taxation in the SGV Cebu conference hall. Seminar participants included representatives from various companies and industries. The event discussed updates from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and court pronouncements, as well as the VAT treatment of various transactions.

During the first day of the seminar, SGV Cebu Partner-in-Charge Cheryl Ong discussed tax updates on BIR administrative issuances and initiatives, income tax, withholding tax, VAT, international tax, taxpayer’s rights and remedies, filing and submission requirements, as well as updates from the Philippine Economic Zone Authority, the Board of Investments, and the Securities and Exchange Commission. On the second day, Tax Partner Saha Adlawan-Bulagsak explained the nature of VAT and its underlying laws, general concepts, VATable transactions and their VAT base, persons exempt from VAT, zero-rated sales, and withholding VAT. Both sessions ended with an open forum.
