In the 1950s, SGV became the leading firm in terms of professional services, staff size, breadth of services, client base, and geographic coverage. The market was previously dominated by American and British accounting firms that had been around since the 1900s.

SGV took over the practice of two British firms: Henry Hunter Bayne & Co. in 1953, which led to Ramon Gorres joining the company and adding his name to the firm to result in SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co. The second firm, Fleming & Williamson, was absorbed by SGV in 1958. This move resulted in SGV raising its headcount to over 200 after 51 of the British firm’s staff were absorbed.
