SGV announces appointment of new leadership roles

Professional services firm, SGV & Co. announces the appointment of J. Carlitos G. Cruz as the firm’s Vice Chairman in addition to his role as Deputy Managing Partner. Assuming his position as the Head of Assurance Services is Wilson P. Tan, who previously led the firm’s Accounting Standards Group. They assumed their new roles on July 1.

SGV Chairman and Managing Partner Atty. Vic Noel said in his announcement, “We have created and sustained a dynamic culture led by the best people and founded on our core values. As the Firm evolves to take on fresh challenges and opportunities in the global market place, our people are also called upon to step up to new responsibilities.”

Mr. Cruz is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and was admitted to the partnership in 1995. He has handled the audits of both Philippine and multinational companies in energy and utilities, oil and gas, and manufacturing. He has also been involved in due diligence, restructuring and Initial Public Offering engagements.

Mr. Cruz earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce from the University of Santo Tomas and was recognized as one of the College of Commerce’s top 75 alumni during its 75th year celebration. He also received the first UST-AMV College of Accountancy Professional Achievement Award in Public Accounting. He completed the Advanced Management Program of the Harvard Business School and also attended the University of Texas at Dallas for its Advanced International Program in Oil and Gas Management.

Also a CPA, Mr. Tan was admitted to the partnership in 2000 and has been the lead partner in all International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) matters. He is a resource speaker on IFRS developments for regulators and business organizations. His audit experience covers industries such as banking, telecommunications, power generation and distribution, food manufacturing, and mining. Aside from assurance work, he performs IFRS on-call advisory, conversion and implementation as well as derivatives and structured transaction advisory services.

He graduated summa cum laude from the University of the East with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and placed 12th in the October 1987 CPA board examinations. Mr. Tan completed his Master of Business Administration degree at the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland. He also attended the Pacific Rim Bankers Program at the University of Washington.
