SGV actuary speaks on economics of capital

Senior Director Romeo Abada spoke last month in an annual technical forum, The Economics of Capital and the Dynamics of Reinsurance, hosted by the National Reinsurance Commission of the Philippines, held at the Shangri-La at the Fort. More than 200 executives from the life, non-life and health insurance industries attended the forum.

Romeo spoke on the optimization of the economics of capital, given the impending changes in Philippine insurance regulatory standards. He also explored how reinsurance can be a tool in the strategic utilization of capital.

For insurance companies, revisiting the concepts of capital is very crucial as the industry begins to adopt new risk-based capital standards layered over the new market-consistent liability valuation methodology. Understanding how the new capital can be optimized and knowing the right strategies to mitigate the risks are vital in the profitable growth of the organization.

Romeo has more than 25 years of experience in the insurance industry in four Asian markets. He joined SGV last year and currently leads the Actuarial and Pension Services Team in our Advisory group.
