M&M Team spearheads mining trainings

The Mining and Metals Working Group (M&M Team) recently conducted training sessions for engagement teams handling clients in the mining and metals sector. Market Group 7 Leader and SGV’s Natural Resource Development Head Jimmy del Rosario (JFR) welcomed the participants to the said workshops. Anchored on the EY Vision 2020 strategy of creating the highest performing teams, JFR emphasized that the sessions were organized as part of the ongoing initiative to enhance SGV’s expertise, as well as our people’s capabilities in the mining and metals industry.

Dubbed as Mining 101, the first workshop held last July 14 served as an introduction to the mining and metals industry. An overview of the different phases of a mine operation and the basic concepts and theories relevant to the industry were discussed during the one-day affair. The second workshop, tagged as Mining 201, was held from July 21 to 22. The two-day event focused on the accounting and auditing considerations in the mining and metals industry. Participants were given the opportunity to share and raise issues based on actual client exposure.

Capping off the series of training sessions was the 2014 Mining and Metals Industry Briefing held last August 7 at WSDC. The briefing dealt with relevant economic updates and industry developments specific to the Philippine mining sector. Business risks, accounting and auditing considerations, and tax matters relevant to the mining industry were also discussed in the said briefing.

The M&M Team is headed by Assurance Partners Jimmy del Rosario and Len Layug. Other members of the team include Directors Shemile Sy-Gamilo and Junerly Estroso-Sy, Associate Directors Katherine Ramos, John Joseph Duma, Oliver Brazas and Maria Lourdes Siapno, Senior Associates Leo Niño Canlas, Fernando Mabbayad, Ann Ritzl Anzures, Visabelle Villotes and Edcel Gozun, and Associates Chester Mendoza and Francis Gonzales.
