MG 7’s ATH Mining team serves GK-Hiyas ng Maynila

The Asia Pacific Talent Hub Group – Mining Industry (ATH Mining) Team conducted its first quarter FY2016 Outreach Program last 10 October 2015 at Gawad Kalinga – Hiyas ng Maynila (GK Onyx Site) in San Andres, Manila. This was conducted as part of Market Group 7’s People Activities and Initiatives.

In coordination with The People Engaged in People Projects Foundation, Inc. (PEPPI), the outreach program included holding a catechism class for kids aged 4-13 years. PEPPI is a non-stock, non-profit corporation whose ACT NOW Program promotes Christian values and cultural formation.

For women in the community to acquire technical skills, the team also conducted a Meat Processing Livelihood Training session with the assistance of Ms. Rufina Ramos, a retired representative from the Department of Trade and Industry-Cottage Industry Technology Center. The program was timely, given the opening of the GK’s livelihood business center this year. After the session, the beneficiaries assured the team that they would leverage on their new knowledge to turn learnings into earnings.

The ATH Mining Team also hosted a Jolly Family Day, where the beneficiaries enjoyed Jollibee meals and games. Both GK kids and SGV volunteers performed dance numbers and each GK family also received a pail full of groceries and medicine packs. The beneficiaries thanked the SGV group not only for the donations, but also for the time, effort and care the volunteers shared with them.

Katherine Ramos and Hazel Jeanne Longat headed the ATH Mining Team. They were joined by MG7 managers Junerly Estroso and Visabelle Villotes. In the spirit of service, volunteerism and giving, MG7 partners and managers made donations to organize the event while seniors and staff actively participated in all the activities. The ATH Mining Team believes that by inculcating the importance of religious consciousness, stability and strong family ties, their people can help develop communities that can be the foundation for a better working world.
