JGC and WPT chair 2015 ACPAPP national convention

Over 400 delegates attended the annual national convention of the Association of Certified Public Accountants in Public Practice (ACPAPP) held last 24-26 September 2015 in General Santos City. With the theme “Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers”, this year’s conference highlighted opportunities that Philippine companies can take advantage of despite the changing regional and global environment, as well as the impact of these developments on the accounting profession.

“Our theme for this year could not have come at a better time. As the Philippine economy continues to make headways, earning the status “Asia’s rising tiger”, and given the changing regional and global landscape, the issues of accounting standards and practices are becoming high on the agenda,” said SGV Vice Chairman and Deputy Managing Partner Itos Cruz (JGC), who co-chaired this year’s convention along with SGV Assurance Head Wilson Tan (WPT).

“High quality accounting and reporting frameworks are crucial in maintaining transparency and good governance in both public and private sectors,” JGC added.

Resource speakers were Ambassador Delia Albert, USAID Trade-Related Assistance for Development Chief of Party Dr. Cielito Habito, former SGV partner and Board of Accountancy Member Gerard Sanvictores, Securities and Exchange Commission Commissioner Antonieta Ibe, Bureau of Internal Revenue Deputy Commissioner Nelson Aspe, Christian Council for Transparency and Accountability Chairman Angelito Gabriel, SGV Partner Yen Abarca, and Auditing and Assurance Standards Council Chairman Roberto Manabat.

The convention was capped off with a Mexican-themed fellowship night where the delegates showcased their talents.
