FSO conducts financial literacy workshop for teachers

SGV’s Financial Services Organization (FSO) recently conducted a financial literacy workshop for teachers at the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Head Office’s Museum of Art. The workshop provided teachers with a practical understanding and appreciation of personal finance.

Around 150 public school teachers from NCR and CALABARZON region attended the event. It was part of the 2015 National Teachers’ Month, which ends on October 5, World Teacher’s Day. A section of the Museum commemorating Metrobank’s Search for Outstanding Teachers awards was also opened to kick off the event.

Director Belvin Armenion led the workshop discussing financial budgeting, debt management, savings and investments, as well as insurance and retirement planning. Interactive case studies were used throughout the presentation to better illustrate the financial terms. Participants were eager to share their experiences, commenting that most teachers do not realize how much they spend regularly and find it hard to save money without guidance. FSO hopes that the basics of personal finance management can spread to even more teachers who can benefit from increased financial literacy.

The core team also included Senior Director Emmanuel Guelas, Senior Associates James Michael Alcantara and Lyca Antonio, and Associates Andrea Gonzalez, Earl Adrian Lim and Christopher Yu with Janeth Nuñez-Javier (JNJ) and Ian Lauron (CGL) as overseeing partners from Market Group 5 and the Advisory Services Group, respectively.

SGV would like to thank all the teachers for their contributions to our development and that of our country! Happy National Teachers’ Month!
